Brampton, ON – This weekend was the most effective as a result of Brampton rapper Bane dropped this new video titled “Cocaine Art Gallery.” This video shows Bane wandering around an all-white artwork gallery filled with massive powder-painted canvases. That is it. Welcome to the Cocaine Art Gallery.
The track was produced by Kyle Wildfern and the video was directed by Jay Willz. Test it after the jump and keep it locked on Bane’s forthcoming Paranoia tape.
Bane’s bars have that genuine uncooked road-stage ScHoolBoy Q quality to them. I’m not saying he appears like Q. Because he doesn’t. His stream is softer and extra controlled. However Bane’s lyrical content is alongside the lines (…like lines…of medicine! Pun absolutely meant!) of what Q’s been doing: it’s unfiltered new wave gang-banger rap. Bane’s been in the sport. So he’s not flexing off as a swag-rapping dope boy. Instead, he’s giving us an sincere account of what that life is like.
I don’t know if this is what Bane was getting at – however I feel like the “Cocaine Artwork Gallery” is a commentary on the glorification of coke in the rap recreation right now. Molly was the buzzword of 2014. And coco (aka: blow, aka: coke, aka: dope) is what’s popping off this year. A lot of the rappers who are going off about blow right now are thus far removed from all of it. They’re not dope boys, but they want to play into the whole dope boy picture. That’s where the “Cocaine Art Gallery” comes into play.
You ever seen a painting on an art gallery wall and hailed it as the most stunning f**king thing you’ve ever seen Maybe you probably did. But you had no context for where the painting got here from or who made it. You just assumed it was good art as a result of it was on the wall of a gallery. This is like cocaine in mainstream rap proper now. Everyone at the club is chanting along in unison: “Baking soda! I’ve acquired baking soda!” But they don’t have baking soda. Not like that. In the event that they did, they’d be busy cooking up crack cocaine – NOT turning up in the membership.
Bane additionally takes a minute to fire some pictures at his peers in the game for playing into all of the gimmicks: “Y’all been on the apple/ I’m simply leaning on this water.” I feel that’s an Adam and Eve reference. Cats are getting greedy and leaping at the primary alternative of fame or cash; similar to Adam and Eve jumped on that apple. However Bane’s not taking part in it like that. He’s simply sitting back and watching y’all make fools of yourselves.
